Deuteronomy 9:19

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you. But the Lord hearkened unto me at that time also.

Context

Moses speaks to Israel on the plains of Moab, just before they enter the Promised Land. He reminds them of their rebellion at Mount Sinai, especially the golden calf incident (Exodus 32:1-35). Moses had been on the mountain for forty days and nights when God told him that the people had corrupted themselves. God’s anger was so fierce that He threatened to destroy them.
