The book of Ecclesiastes, written by King Solomon, explores the meaning of life and the pursuit of wisdom. This verse concludes a passage addressed to a young person, following the command in Ecclesiastes 11:9 to rejoice in youth while remembering that God will bring every deed into judgment. Meaning
Solomon encourages individuals to let go of sorrow or anxiety that can burden the heart. The Hebrew word translated “sorrow” can also be rendered “anger,” “vexation,” or “discontent,” referring to inner agitation such as worry, grief, and resentment. Dwelling on such turmoil hinders a person from enjoying life and experiencing its blessings. Instead, Solomon advises seeking contentment and joy.
The second command, “put away evil from thy flesh,” urges the removal of sinful behaviour and harmful lusts. It calls individuals to turn away from immoral actions that can harm oneself and others. By resisting temptation and pursuing righteousness, one can lead a life that pleases God and promotes personal well-being.

Recognise the brevity of youth: Youth is a precious season, but it is temporary. Therefore, we should make the most of it by seeking wisdom, growing in character, and investing in relationships that have eternal value.
Live with accountability: Because God will bring every deed into judgment, removing sorrow and evil is an act of wisdom. We are called to rejoice in the present while living with the awareness that our choices matter eternally.
