Listen to this article

“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power”

Context:To understand Ephesians 1:19 fully, it’s crucial to examine the surrounding verses and the broader context of the Epistle to the Ephesians. This verse is part of a prayer offered by the Apostle Paul to the Ephesian believers, expressing his desire for them to comprehend the immeasurable power of God available to them as believers in Christ Jesus.

Exceeding Greatness of His Power:Paul starts by highlighting the exceptional or surpassing greatness of God’s power. The power being referred to here is the divine power inherent in God, which surpasses any other power known to mankind. It is not limited by human limitations and is beyond measure.

To Us-Ward Who Believe:The Apostle Paul emphasises that this exceeding greatness of God’s power is directed specifically “to us-ward who believe.” This power is not available to all indiscriminately but is accessible to those who have faith in Jesus Christ. Believers are the recipients of this divine power through their relationship with Christ.

According to the Working of His Mighty Power:Paul further explains that the manifestation of this power is in accordance with “the working of his mighty power.” It highlights that God’s power is actively at work, dynamically and effectively operating in the lives of believers. This power is not just a theoretical concept but something practical and life-transforming.

Application:Ephesians 1:19 serves as a reminder to believers of the immense power available to them through their faith in Jesus Christ. It encourages believers to tap into this power and to fully embrace its potential in their lives. It reminds us that we are not alone or helpless in our journey of faith, but we have access to the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead (Ephesians 1:20).

  • As we reflect on this verse, it challenges us to trust in God’s power, to live in the awareness of His greatness, and to rely on Him for strength and guidance in every aspect of our lives. It encourages us to approach challenges, difficulties, and opportunities with confidence, knowing that the power of God is at work within us.

Remember to study the Bible comprehensively by examining the verses before and after, considering the historical and cultural context, and comparing with other related passages to gain a deeper understanding of God’s message.
