Ephesians 6:22

“Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.”

The purpose of Tychicus:Paul begins verse 22 by stating that he has sent Tychicus to the Ephesians for a specific purpose. The purpose is twofold:

a. To inform: Tychicus was sent to provide information about Paul’s circumstances and affairs. Since Paul was likely imprisoned when he wrote this letter, Tychicus acted as Paul’s messenger to update the Ephesian church about his situation. This update aimed to keep the believers informed and connected with Paul, despite his physical absence.

b. To comfort: Another purpose of Tychicus’s visit was to bring comfort to the hearts of the Ephesian believers. The news about Paul’s well-being and continued dedication to the gospel would bring reassurance and encouragement to the church. Tychicus likely carried a message of hope and solidarity, strengthening their faith and reminding them of Paul’s love for them.

Just as Tychicus brought news from Paul, we should make an effort to keep our fellow believers informed about our lives and pray for one another.
• Comfort and encouragement:Tychicus’s role as a source of comfort highlights the significance of supporting and encouraging one another during challenging times. When someone is going through difficulties, we can provide comfort by sharing words of affirmation, offering practical help, and praying for their needs. We can bring comfort to others’ hearts by reminding them of God’s faithfulness, His promises, and our love and care for them.
• God’s provision:The fact that Paul sent Tychicus to the Ephesians serves as a reminder that God provides for the needs of His people. In times of uncertainty or separation, God can raise up individuals to bring comfort, encouragement, and assistance to those in need. We should trust in God’s sovereignty, knowing that He orchestrates circumstances and relationships for the well-being of His people.
