Esther 10:2
And all the actes of his power, and of his might, and the declaration of the greatnesse of Mordecai, whereunto the king aduanced him, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia? Esther 10:2 (KJV)
The Book of Esther records the story of a Jewish woman named Esther who becomes queen of Persia and, with the help of her cousin Mordecai, saves her people from a plot to annihilate them. This final verse of the book serves as a conclusion, summarizing Mordecai’s accomplishments and highlighting his elevation to a position of prominence.
The verse begins by acknowledging “all the acts of his power and of his might,” or “all that Mordecai did.” Throughout the narrative Mordecai displays wisdom, courage, and faithfulness to God, rising to a position of influence in the Persian court and playing a key role in delivering the Jewish people. This recognition emphasizes the impact of his actions and the favor he found in the eyes of the king.
It also mentions “the declaration of the greatness of Mordecai.” That declaration refers to the public recognition and praise Mordecai received for his contributions, likely through royal proclamations or decrees. His greatness was witnessed by the king and court officials and was recorded in the historical chronicles.
The verse states that these acts and the acknowledgment of his greatness were entered in “the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia.” The Persian monarchs kept an official chronicle documenting significant events and achievements during their reigns. This reference underscores the historical significance of Mordecai’s deeds and their lasting impact on the Jewish people.
Finally, the verse reminds us that God can use individuals such as Mordecai to accomplish His purposes. Even in difficult circumstances, God works behind the scenes, orchestrating events for the good of His people. The passage encourages believers to remain faithful, trust in God’s providence, and be confident that He can raise us up and use us for His glory.
