Ezekiel 16:7

Listen to this article

I haue caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine haire is growen, whereas thou wast naked and bare. Ezekiel 16:7 (KJV)

Ezekiel 16 presents a lengthy allegory in which the Lord, speaking through the prophet, portrays the unfaithfulness and spiritual harlotry of Jerusalem. In verse 7 the divine voice declares His care and blessings, employing vivid images of growth and beauty to describe the city’s former condition and subsequent transformation.

Multiplication and Increase: God declares that He multiplied Jerusalem “as the bud of the field,” emphasizing His providential favor that led to the city’s growth and prosperity. The language underscores that the increase was a direct result of God’s blessing rather than human effort.

Excellent Ornaments: The passage continues that Jerusalem has come to “excellent ornaments,” indicating that the city has been adorned with precious and beautiful things. This imagery symbolizes the abundance of God’s blessings and the splendor that now characterizes the people.

Transformation and Growth: Further detail is given of the physical transformation—breasts fashioned and hair grown—contrasted with the prior state of being “naked and bare.” The contrast highlights a movement from vulnerability and insignificance to beauty, maturity, and dignity, reflecting the depth of divine renewal.

Spiritual Application: While the verse addresses Jerusalem, the study draws a parallel for believers. As recipients of God’s grace, we are likewise called to recognize that He desires to bless and prosper His people, causing growth and multiplication in every aspect of life. The same divine work that turned a barren city into a splendid woman can transform our own lives from spiritual emptiness to abundance and maturity.

Gratitude and Praise: The vivid description invites believers to respond with gratitude, acknowledging God’s faithfulness in providing, growing, and adorning us with His grace. Such reflection should inspire heartfelt praise and thanksgiving for His goodness.

To deepen understanding, readers are encouraged to read the surrounding verses and chapters, consult reputable commentaries, and seek guidance from spiritual leaders, allowing the full richness of Ezekiel 16:7 to shape both knowledge and devotion.
