Ezekiel 25:10

Unto the men of the East with the Ammonites, and will giue them in possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembred among the nations. Ezekiel 25:10 (KJV)

The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament that contains the prophecies given by the prophet Ezekiel during the Babylonian exile. In the oracle of Ezekiel 25:8‑11 God pronounces judgment against several surrounding nations, among them Moab and the Ammonites. Verse 10 declares, “Unto the men of the east with the Ammonites, and will give them in possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations,” indicating that the Ammonites will be given over to the men of the east for possession and that their national memory will be erased.

Historically the Ammonites were descendants of Lot, Abraham’s nephew, and they inhabited the region east of the Jordan River north of Moab. They were known for hostility toward Israel and for taking advantage of Israel’s vulnerable situations. This background helps explain why they are included among the nations judged in this passage.

God’s judgment in this chapter is presented as an act of divine justice. Throughout Ezekiel the prophet emphasizes that God executes judgment on the surrounding nations because of their pride, idolatry, and mistreatment of Israel. Although the specific reason for the judgment on the Ammonites is not stated in verse 10, the broader context suggests that they shared in the sins for which God is judging the nations. The judgment “to give them in possession to the men of the east” signals that the Ammonites will be conquered and subjugated by another nation.

The purpose of removing the Ammonites “from memory among the nations” points to a complete eradication of their distinct national identity, as echoed in Ezekiel 25:7 where God says, “I will cut thee off from the people… I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.” Thus the oracle combines historical reality, divine retribution, and the ultimate loss of remembrance for the Ammonite nation.
