Ezekiel 28:26

And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall know that I am the Lord their God.

Ezekiel 28:26 (KJV)

This verse concludes a prophecy against the ruler of Tyre, yet it turns to a promise of restoration for God’s people Israel. The surrounding chapters pronounce judgment on nations that opposed Israel, and this closing promise shows that God’s ultimate purpose is not destruction but the secure dwelling of His people in their land.

“And they shall dwell safely therein” speaks of God’s people living in their land without fear. The safety is not from their own strength but from God’s protection. “And shall build houses, and plant vineyards” pictures stability and prosperity—actions that require time and peace, showing that God grants His people a settled life where they enjoy the fruit of their labor.

“Yea, they shall dwell with confidence” emphasizes trust and assurance in God’s care. This confidence is not presumption but a calm reliance on His faithfulness. The phrase “when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them” ties their security to God’s justice. He will deal with the enemies who scorn His people, vindicating them and removing the threat.

The final clause, “and they shall know that I am the Lord their God,” reveals the deepest purpose of this deliverance. Through His judgments and restoration, Israel will recognize Him as their covenant God. This knowledge is both the result of His acts and the goal of their relationship with Him.

For believers today, this verse teaches that true security comes from God alone, not from circumstances or human alliances. When we face opposition or fear, we can trust that God sees and will act in His time. Our confidence rests in His character, not in our own ability to control outcomes.

Building houses and planting vineyards also reminds us to invest in the places God has put us, living with stability and purpose even while we await His final restoration. Our work is not in vain when done in faith.

God’s ultimate goal is that we know Him. As we experience His protection and provision, we grow in that knowledge, and our lives become a testimony to His faithfulness. The peace He gives is not merely the absence of trouble but the presence of His sovereign care.
