Ezekiel 3:10

Listen to this article

“Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.”

Historical Context:Ezekiel was a prophet who lived during the Babylonian exile of Israel. He received his prophetic calling and visions from God while in Babylon. The book of Ezekiel contains a record of his prophecies and visions, which were directed primarily to the exiled Israelites.

  • The Prophetic Calling of Ezekiel:

Ezekiel was addressed by God as “Son of man,” emphasizing his humanity and the fact that he was a representative of the people. As a prophet, Ezekiel had the responsibility of delivering God’s message to the people, conveying the divine words to them faithfully.

Receiving God’s Words:In this verse, God instructs Ezekiel to receive His words in his heart and listen with his ears. This emphasizes the importance of attentive and receptive listening when it comes to receiving and understanding God’s message. It is not enough to simply hear the words; they must also be internalized and taken to heart.

The Significance of Receiving God’s Words:By instructing Ezekiel to receive His words, God emphasizes the importance of being receptive to divine revelation. This implies that the words Ezekiel would receive were not to be taken lightly but should be valued and treated with utmost seriousness. God’s words contain guidance, instruction, and wisdom that are essential for fulfilling one’s calling and living in accordance with God’s will.

Application to Believers Today:While Ezekiel’s specific calling as a prophet is unique, the principle of receiving God’s words applies to believers today. As Christians, we have the written Word of God, the Bible, which contains His timeless truths and teachings. We are called to receive the Word of God in our hearts, study it diligently, and apply it to our lives.

The Need for Active Listening:God’s instruction to Ezekiel to listen with his ears emphasizes the need for active listening. It involves not only hearing the words but also paying close attention, seeking understanding, and being willing to respond and obey. As believers, we are called to cultivate a listening ear, attentive to the voice of God through His Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The Result of Receiving God’s Words:When we receive God’s words in our hearts and truly listen to them, we position ourselves to be transformed and guided by His truth. The words of God have the power to shape our thinking, inform our decisions, and mold our character. By receiving His words, we open ourselves up to the transformative work of the Holy Spirit and align ourselves with God’s purposes.

In conclusion, Ezekiel 3:10 reminds us of the importance of receiving God’s words in our hearts and listening attentively to His instructions. It calls us to value and internalize the divine revelation we receive, recognizing the significance of God’s words for our lives. By actively listening to God’s Word, we position ourselves to be transformed and guided by His truth, aligning ourselves with His will.
