Ezekiel 3:12

Listen to this article

“Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.”

Context:In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel describes an extraordinary experience where he is lifted up by the Spirit and hears a voice behind him.

Ezekiel was a prophet who received visions and messages from God during the Babylonian exile. In Ezekiel 1, he encounters a remarkable vision of God’s glory, represented by a chariot-like structure with cherubim and wheels. This vision establishes the background for the rest of the book.

In Ezekiel 3:12, Ezekiel recounts another encounter with the Spirit of God. The phrase “the spirit took me up” indicates that Ezekiel was supernaturally moved or lifted up by the power of the Holy Spirit. This action signifies the divine guidance and empowerment bestowed upon him as a prophet.

As Ezekiel is lifted up, he hears a voice behind him. This voice is described as a “great rushing,” suggesting a powerful and awe-inspiring sound. The voice proclaims, “Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place.” This declaration acknowledges the magnificence and splendor of God’s glory.

The voice emphasizes the blessedness or praise due to the glory of the Lord. It signifies the greatness and honor that should be attributed to God’s presence and authority. The phrase “from his place” suggests that God’s glory is not confined to a specific location but extends throughout the universe.

This verse underscores the transcendent nature of God’s glory and the reverence it deserves. It also serves as a reminder of the divine calling and mission Ezekiel has received as a prophet. The supernatural lifting and the voice behind him serve to reinforce God’s presence with him and the authority behind his prophetic message.
