Ezekiel 35:6

Listen to this article

“Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.”

Ezekiel 35:6 is a verse from the book of Ezekiel, which contains prophecies and messages from God to the people of Israel. This particular verse is part of a passage where the Lord is speaking through the prophet Ezekiel, delivering a message of judgment against Mount Seir, an area inhabited by the Edomites, who were descendants of Esau.

The verse begins with the statement, “Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God,” which emphasizes the certainty and authority of God’s words. This declaration establishes that what follows is a pronouncement of divine judgment. The phrase “I will prepare thee unto blood” indicates that God will bring destruction and violence upon Mount Seir. This could be seen as a consequence of their actions or attitudes.

The latter part of the verse states, “and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.” Here, the phrase “blood shall pursue thee” suggests a retribution or retaliation against the Edomites. The context implies that they had been involved in shedding innocent blood or showing a lack of concern for the value of human life. As a result, they will experience the same fate they have brought upon others.

In this verse, God’s justice is evident. He is holding the Edomites accountable for their actions, particularly their disregard for human life. It is essential to note that this verse is a specific message to the Edomites and should be understood within the context of the broader narrative of the book of Ezekiel.

As with any passage from the Bible, it is crucial to consider the historical and cultural context, as well as the overall message of God’s redemption and grace throughout the Scriptures. The study of the Bible requires careful interpretation and examination of various passages to gain a comprehensive understanding of God’s message to humanity.
