Listen to this article

“And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.”

Historical and Contextual Background:Ezekiel was a prophet who lived during the Babylonian exile of Israel. God spoke to Ezekiel and revealed His plans for the restoration and redemption of His people. The context of Ezekiel 36 is God’s promise to restore the land of Israel and bless His people after a period of punishment for their sins.

Divine Multiplication:In Ezekiel 36:11, God promises to multiply both man and beast upon the people of Israel. This refers to an increase in population and livestock, symbolising prosperity and abundance. It demonstrates God’s intention to bless and restore His people.

Fruitfulness and Productivity:God declares that His people will increase and bring forth fruit. This implies not only physical growth but also spiritual and moral fertility. God desires His people to bear spiritual fruit, such as righteousness, love, and obedience. This promise highlights God’s desire for His people to flourish in every aspect of their lives.

Restoration of Old Estates:God assures the people of Israel that He will settle them after their old estates. This refers to the restoration of their land, homes, and inheritance. The phrase suggests a return to the previous glory and prosperity they enjoyed before their exile. God’s promise of restoration emphasises His faithfulness and His commitment to fulfil His covenant promises.

Greater Blessings:God declares that He will do better unto His people than at their beginnings. This implies that the blessings and favour God will pour out upon His people after their restoration will exceed what they experienced in the past. God’s promise reflects His abundant grace, mercy, and provision for His people.

Knowing the Lord:The verse concludes with the assurance that the people of Israel will know that the LORD is their God. Through the fulfilment of these promises, God will reveal His faithfulness, sovereignty, and power to His people. The restoration and blessings they will experience will serve as a testimony to the faithfulness of God and deepen their relationship with Him.

Overall, Ezekiel 36:11 portrays God’s promises of restoration, abundance, and greater blessings for His people. It reveals His desire to bless and multiply them, and ultimately, for them to recognise and acknowledge Him as their Lord. This passage offers hope, encouragement, and a reminder of God’s faithfulness to His covenant and His people.
