Ezekiel 39:10

“So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord God.”
A Profound Divine Reversal

Ezekiel 39:10 describes a monumental deliverance where God provides total victory for His people. Following the defeat of the hostile armies of Gog, Israel finds themselves burning the weapons of their vanquished enemies for fuel, rather than needing to gather firewood from the fields or forests. This prophetic imagery highlights a central biblical theme: God ultimately turns the malicious schemes of the wicked back upon their own heads and provides completely for His people out of the ruins of their adversaries.

The Uselessness of Worldly Weapons

While the enemies of God rely on their own strength, their swords, and their bows to oppress the righteous, the Lord knows that "their day is coming" (Psalm 37). The wicked draw their swords to bring down the poor and needy, but ultimately, their weapons will be rendered useless, and their plots will be undone. Just as the weapons of Gog's armies become mere fuel for the fire, the oppressive tools of the wicked are systematically dismantled by the Lord. His deliverance is so absolute that the very instruments intended for destruction are repurposed for provision.

The Justice of the Lord

This complete reversal of fortune demonstrates God’s supreme justice. The text declares that they will "spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them." Those who previously came to plunder and destroy are themselves plundered. God promises to break the yoke of the oppressor so that foreigners will no longer enslave His people (Jeremiah 30). Instead of facing desolation, the righteous are vindicated, assuring those who trust in Him that they will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.

Trust in the Ultimate Defender

Ezekiel 39:10 serves as a powerful reminder that God is the ultimate defender of His people. The trials and attacks that believers face can be sovereignly overturned by God, transforming instruments of harm into testimonies of His provision. Believers are encouraged to wait patiently for the Lord, resisting the urge to fret over the temporary successes of wicked people who carry out evil schemes. We are not to fear the threats of the enemy, nor are we to be dismayed by the weapons formed against us. Ultimately, God's justice will prevail, and He will abundantly provide for those who remain steadfast in faith and obedience.
