Ezekiel 41:5

After he measured the wall of the house sixe cubites, and the bredth of euerie side-chamber foure cubites round about the house on euery side. Ezekiel 41:5 (KJV)

Ezekiel 41:5 records the precise dimensions of the temple that the prophet Ezekiel saw in his vision. Ezekiel, a priest‑and‑prophet, was called by God to speak to the exiled Israelites in Babylon, and the book that bears his name contains a series of detailed visions of a restored sanctuary that would once again house God’s presence among His people.

The verse tells us that the outer wall of the house was measured at six cubits, and that each side chamber surrounding the temple was four cubits wide, extending round about the house on every side. In the same vision Ezekiel also notes that the side chambers were built in three stories, one over another, and that there were thirty chambers arranged in order along the wall, both in the inner court and on the outer wall of the house.

These measurements demonstrate divine precision and order. Compared with the earlier temple destroyed by the Babylonians, the dimensions of this future temple emphasize a renewed grandeur and a meticulous design that points to God’s intention to restore His dwelling place in a way that surpasses the former structure.

The side chambers served practical purposes—storage, priestly quarters, and other temple‑related functions—and they symbolize God’s provision for His people. Their orderly arrangement around the perimeter reflects a sense of perfection in God’s design and underscores the covenant relationship that God seeks to re‑establish with Israel.

Beyond the physical structure, the vision points to spiritual truths for today’s believers. As the New Testament teaches that believers are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), the careful details of Ezekiel’s temple invite us to honor God’s presence in our lives with reverence and obedience. The grandeur and exactness of the measurements remind us of God’s holiness, His faithfulness, and His desire to dwell among His people, offering comfort, hope, and assurance of His ongoing care.

Thus, Ezekiel 41:5 not only records architectural data but also conveys a message of restoration, hope, and divine provision. It encourages us to trust in God’s promises, to revere His holy presence, and to recognize our role as the living temple where the Spirit dwells, cultivating a deeper relationship with the Almighty.
