Ezekiel 41:7

Listen to this article

“And there was an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst.”

In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel describes the architectural features of the temple in a vision he received from God. This particular verse focuses on the winding or spiraling nature of the structure, which leads to an upward increase in the breadth of the house from the lowest chamber to the highest.

The context of this verse is crucial for understanding its significance. The entire chapter of Ezekiel 41 provides a detailed description of the temple’s structure, including its various chambers, walls, and measurements. Ezekiel was given this vision during the period of the Babylonian exile when the Israelites were longing for the restoration of Jerusalem and the temple.

Symbolically, the winding nature of the house may represent the progressive and ascending nature of God’s work and purposes. It suggests that the divine plan unfolds in a gradual and purposeful manner, moving ever closer to its ultimate fulfillment. This can be observed in the history of God’s interactions with His people, as well as in the unfolding of His redemptive plan through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Additionally, the increasing breadth from the lowest chamber to the highest signifies the growth and expansion of God’s dwelling place. It suggests that as we draw nearer to God, there is a broadening of His presence and blessings. This aligns with the biblical principle that those who seek the Lord wholeheartedly will experience a deepening intimacy with Him and an abundance of spiritual blessings.

Moreover, this verse can also be applied to our personal lives as believers. It reminds us that our journey of faith is not stagnant but rather marked by growth and progress. As we continue to seek God and follow His ways, our spiritual lives should be characterised by an upward movement, continually increasing in our understanding of His truth, our love for Him, and our conformity to the image of Christ.

In summary, Ezekiel 41:7 symbolically portrays the progressive and ascending nature of God’s work and purposes. It reminds us of the growth and expansion that can be experienced in our relationship with God and serves as an encouragement to continually seek Him and move forward in our faith journey.
