Ezekiel 43:21
Thou shalt take the bullocke also of the sinne offering, and he shall burne it in the appointed place of the house without the Sanctuary. Ezekiel 43:21 (KJV)
In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel is describing the instructions given by God regarding the offering of a sin offering.
To understand the context, it’s important to have some background information.
During the time of Ezekiel, the Israelites were in exile in Babylon, and the temple in Jerusalem had been destroyed.
Ezekiel was given visions and prophecies by God to communicate to the people, including details about the future restoration of the temple.
In this particular verse, Ezekiel is providing instructions for the priests concerning the sin offering, specifically the offering of a bull.
The sin offering was a ritual performed to seek forgiveness for the sins of the people.
The verse states that the bull of the sin offering was to be burned in the appointed place of the house, outside the sanctuary.
The appointed place of the house refers to a designated area within the temple complex where the offering was to be conducted.
This was separate from the sanctuary, which was the holiest part of the temple.
The placement of the sin offering outside the sanctuary was significant because it symbolized the removal of sin from the sacred space.
The burning of the offering represented the complete destruction of the sin, indicating the seriousness of sin and the need atonement.
This verse also highlights the distinction between the holy and the sinful.
The sanctuary represents the presence of God and His holiness, while the place of burning the sin offering represents the consequences of sin and the need for purification.
