Ezekiel 43:22

Posted on 18 May at 14:10
Listen to this article

“And on the second day thou shalt offer a kid of the goats without blemish for a sin offering; and they shall cleanse the altar, as they did cleanse it with the bullock.”

In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel is receiving a vision of the future temple, and he is given detailed instructions regarding the consecration and purification of the altar. This particular verse focuses on the offerings to be made on the second day of the consecration.

Here are a few key points to consider in this verse:

Sin Offering:The offering mentioned in this verse is a “kid of the goats without blemish.” This type of offering was commonly used as a sin offering in the Old Testament. Sin offerings were made to atone for the sins committed by the people and to seek forgiveness from God. The animal offered had to be without any defect or blemish, symbolizing the need for a perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins.

Purification of the Altar:The primary purpose of the sin offering on the second day is to cleanse the altar. In the previous verse (Ezekiel 43:20), it is mentioned that blood from the sin offering is to be put on the posts of the temple and the four corners of the ledge of the altar. This act of purification signifies the removal of impurities and the sanctification of the altar for holy purposes. Cleansing the altar was necessary before it could be used for worship and sacrifices.

Parallel with the Bull Offering:The verse mentions that the cleansing of the altar with the kid of the goats is to be done in the same manner as it was done with the bullock (bull) in the previous day’s offering. This parallel suggests that the process of cleansing and consecration remains consistent throughout the consecration period. The use of different animals for offerings on consecutive days emphasizes the importance of each offering in the overall consecration process.

It is important to note that the book of Ezekiel contains numerous detailed instructions and visions related to the temple, priesthood, and worship practices. These instructions were given to Ezekiel during a time when the people of Israel were in exile, and the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. The vision of the future temple and its rituals served to offer hope and restoration to the people, reminding them of the significance of worship and the need for repentance and forgiveness.

As we study this verse, we can reflect on the spiritual truths it conveys. The need for cleansing and purification is a recurring theme in the Bible. Just as the altar needed to be cleansed before it could be used for worship, we, too, need cleansing and forgiveness of our sins to draw near to God. Jesus Christ, through His perfect sacrifice on the cross, became the ultimate sin offering for us. Through faith in Him, we can experience the forgiveness and cleansing of our sins, and approach God with confidence.

I hope this Bible study on Ezekiel 43:22 has provided you with insights and a deeper understanding of the verse.
