Ezekiel 5:13

Listen to this article

“Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the LORD have spoken it in my zeal, when I have accomplished my fury in them.”

In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel delivers a message from the Lord to the people of Israel, specifically addressing the judgment and punishment that will come upon them due to their disobedience and idolatry.

Divine Anger and Fury:The verse begins by stating that God’s anger and fury will be fully accomplished. This emphasizes the seriousness of the people’s sins and the just consequences they will face. The Lord is righteous and holy, and He cannot tolerate continued rebellion and idolatry.

Resting of God’s Fury:God declares that He will cause His fury to rest upon the people of Israel. This signifies a completion or fulfilment of His judgment upon them. The punishment will be severe and decisive, illustrating the weight of their transgressions and the necessity of divine justice.

God’s Comfort and Zeal:Surprisingly, the verse states that God will be comforted through the execution of His fury. This does not imply that God takes pleasure in punishing His people, but rather that He finds satisfaction in fulfilling His righteous plan. His zeal, His passion for justice and holiness, drives Him to carry out His purposes.

Recognition of the Lord’s Authority:The verse concludes by stating that the people will know that the Lord has spoken and brought about His judgment in His zeal. The purpose of this judgment is not just to inflict punishment but to demonstrate His sovereignty and establish His authority. The people will recognise that it is the Lord, the Almighty God, who has spoken and acted, revealing His power and holiness.

Ezekiel 5:13 serves as a reminder of the consequences of disobedience and the importance of recognising God’s authority. It underscores the righteous character of God, His commitment to justice, and the need for repentance.
