Ezekiel 5:14

Listen to this article

“Moreover, I will make thee waste, and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by.”

Context:In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel is relaying a message from God to the Israelites, specifically addressing Jerusalem.

This message contains a warning of severe judgment and destruction that will befall the city and its people due to their disobedience and idolatry.

The verse begins with the phrase “Moreover, I will make thee waste.” Here, God is declaring His intention to bring devastation and desolation upon Jerusalem. This signifies the destruction of the city, its buildings, and its inhabitants. It emphasizes the consequences of the Israelites’ disobedience and departure from God’s commandments.

The verse further states that Jerusalem will become “a reproach among the nations that are round about thee.” This means that Jerusalem, which was once regarded with honour and significance among the surrounding nations, will now become a subject of ridicule, shame, and disgrace. The city will lose its reputation and become a symbol of God’s judgment upon His people.

Additionally, the phrase “in the sight of all that pass by” implies that the destruction of Jerusalem will be visible to everyone. The neighbouring nations and those who pass by will witness the consequences of Israel’s disobedience, and it will serve as a warning and testimony of God’s righteous judgment.

Overall, Ezekiel 5:14 underscores the severe judgment that God will bring upon Jerusalem as a result of the Israelites’ disobedience. It emphasises the magnitude of the destruction, the disgrace that will befall the city, and the public display of God’s judgment. This passage serves as a reminder of the importance of faithfulness and obedience to God’s commands, as well as the consequences of turning away from Him.
