Ezekiel continues his vision of the glory of God departing from the temple. In this chapter, he sees a vision of cherubim, which are angelic beings, standing at the south entrance of the temple. Each cherub has four faces and four wings, and their appearance is like burning coals of fire. The glory of God appears above them.
As Ezekiel watches, the cherubim move, and their wings make a sound like the voice of the Almighty God. They lift up the glory of God and move it to the threshold of the temple. The temple is filled with a cloud, and the court is filled with the brightness of the glory of the Lord. The sound of the cherubim’s wings is heard even in the outer court.
Ezekiel sees the cherubim and the wheels beside them, and a voice calls him to take coals of fire from between the cherubim and scatter them over the city. The glory of the Lord departs from the temple and stands over the cherubim.
This chapter highlights the departure of God’s glory from the temple, symbolizing God’s judgment and withdrawal of His presence from a sinful and rebellious people.
