Ezra 6:16

And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy,

Context

Ezra tells how the Israelites returned from Babylonian captivity and rebuilt the temple in Jerusalem. King Cyrus of Persia had allowed them to return, but enemies stopped the work. Later, King Darius confirmed the decree, and the building was finished. This verse records the joyful dedication of the completed house of God.

Meaning

The verse names three groups: the children of Israel, the priests and Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity. The priests offered sacrifices and led worship, while the Levites assisted them. The others were the people of Judah and Benjamin who had returned. Together they “kept the dedication,” meaning they set the temple apart for sacred use with celebration. This act marked a significant milestone in restoring worship after the exile.
