Ezra 6:15

Posted on 18 May at 15:22

“And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.”

Historical Context: Ezra is a book in the Old Testament that records the events surrounding the return of the Israelites from Babylonian captivity and the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. This verse takes place during the reign of King Darius of Persia, who issued a decree allowing the Israelites to rebuild the temple.

  • Completion of the House:

Ezra 6:15 states that the temple was completed on the third day of the month Adar, in the sixth year of King Darius’ reign. This was a significant milestone for the Israelites because it marked the successful completion of the reconstruction of the temple, which had been destroyed by the Babylonians.

Significance of the Completion: a. Restoration of Worship: The completion of the temple meant that the Israelites could resume their worship and sacrifices according to the Law of Moses. It was a pivotal moment in the restoration of their religious practices and the reestablishment of their relationship with God.

b. God’s Faithfulness: The completion of the temple was a testament to God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. Despite the challenges faced by the Israelites during their exile, God had brought them back to their land and enabled them to rebuild the house of worship.

Spiritual Application:

  • Perseverance:The completion of the temple required perseverance and determination from the Israelites. They faced opposition and obstacles during the rebuilding process, but they remained faithful to the task at hand. This encourages us to persevere in our own spiritual journeys and not be discouraged by challenges that come our way.
  • God’s Timing:The timing of the completion of the temple shows that God works according to His perfect timing. The Israelites had to wait for the right moment ordained by God to finish the temple. In our lives, we should trust in God’s timing and have patience, knowing that He will bring about completion in His own time.
  • Restoration and Renewal:The completion of the temple symbolises restoration and renewal. It represents the healing and rebuilding of what was broken. In our own lives, God desires to restore and renew us. Just as the Israelites rebuilt the physical temple, we should allow God to rebuild and restore our lives, making us vessels fit for His purpose.

Overall, Ezra 6:15 reminds us of God’s faithfulness, the importance of perseverance, and the significance of restoration and renewal. It serves as a powerful reminder that God is at work in our lives, bringing about completion according to His perfect plan and timing.
