Genesis 27:28

Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

Genesis 27:28 (KJV)

Isaac speaks these words to Jacob, who has come disguised as Esau. The aging father intends to give the patriarchal blessing to his firstborn son, but Jacob’s deception redirects it. When Isaac later learns the truth, he does not take the blessing back. He confirms that Jacob will indeed be blessed, and this verse records that solemn pronouncement.

Isaac begins with “Therefore God give thee,” showing that every blessing comes from God, not from human effort. The “dew of heaven” was vital for crops in a dry land, so it represents refreshment and divine provision from above. The “fatness of the earth” means rich soil and abundant harvests, pointing to material prosperity and fertility. “Plenty of corn and wine” names the staples of daily life, symbols of joy and celebration. Together these phrases cover both heavenly and earthly gifts, showing that God’s favour includes spiritual and material realms.

This blessing is not a mere wish but a prophetic declaration spoken with authority. It carries the covenant promises made to Abraham and passes them to Jacob, even though human scheming was involved. The abundance described here foreshadows the fertility of the Promised Land, where dew and rich soil would sustain God’s people. The account reminds us that God’s plans cannot be stopped by human failure.

Recognise that every good gift comes from God’s hand. The same God who gave dew and harvest still provides for His people today. This truth calls for gratitude and faithful stewardship of what we receive. Blessings are not only for personal enjoyment but for serving others and honouring God.

God can work through flawed human actions to accomplish His purposes. Jacob’s deception did not surprise God or derail His plan. This verse invites us to trust God’s sovereignty, even when circumstances seem tangled. True prosperity is found in a relationship with Him, and He promises to supply our needs as we seek His kingdom first.
