Genesis 5:10

And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:

Genesis 5:10 (KJV)

Genesis 5:10 belongs to the genealogical record often called the “generations of Adam.” This chapter traces the line from Adam to Noah, showing the orderly progress of each generation. Enos, also spelled Enosh, was the grandson of Adam and Eve and the son of Seth. Seth’s line continued the faithful worship of God after Abel’s death, in contrast to the descendants of Cain.

The verse records that after Enos begat Cainan, he lived 815 more years and had other sons and daughters. Their names are not given, but their existence shows that God’s command to be fruitful and multiply was being fulfilled. Enos lived 905 years in total. Such long lifespans before the flood remind us that human life was once far longer than it is today. The extended years also highlight the patience of God in allowing many generations to live and witness His ways.

This verse follows the same pattern as Genesis 5:9, where Enos begat Cainan at age ninety. The repeated structure in this chapter emphasizes the faithful continuation of the godly line from Seth, which eventually leads to Noah and ultimately to Jesus Christ. The mention of unnamed sons and daughters, as in Genesis 5:13, shows that God’s plan included many people beyond the named ancestors.

Although the names of Enos’s other children are omitted, every person matters to God. Each generation played a part in His plan, even when their stories are not told. We can trust that our faithful lives, even if unnoticed by others, are significant in God’s purposes.

This brief verse teaches that God values ordinary faithfulness over fame. Enos’s life was marked by steady obedience, and his legacy continued through his descendants. Let us be encouraged to live faithfully, knowing that God sees and remembers every act of devotion.
