Hebrews 13:6

Posted on 18 May at 14:27
Listen to this article

“So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

Context:The book of Hebrews was written to encourage Jewish Christians who were facing persecution and considering returning to their former Jewish practices. The author of Hebrews emphasizes the supremacy of Jesus Christ and the superiority of the new covenant over the old covenant. In the final chapter, the author provides exhortations and practical instructions to live as faithful followers of Christ.

Study:

Trusting in the Lord:

  • The verse begins with the phrase “so that we may boldly say.” This indicates that the writer is encouraging believers to have confidence and trust in the Lord.
  • Discuss the importance of trust in God and how it relates to our daily lives as Christians.

The Lord is my helper:

  • What does it mean for the Lord to be our helper? Reflect on instances in the Bible where God has shown Himself as a helper to His people (e.g., Moses and the Israelites, David and Goliath, Daniel in the lion’s den).
  • Share personal testimonies or stories of how God has been your helper in difficult situations.

Overcoming fear:

  • The verse states, “and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Explore the reasons why people might fear what others can do to them.
  • Reflect on the power and sovereignty of God compared to the limitations of human beings. How does understanding God’s authority and love help us overcome fear?
  • Share practical ways to cultivate trust in God and overcome fear in our lives.

Comparison to other Scriptures:

  • Compare Hebrews 13:6 with similar passages that encourage believers not to fear, such as Psalm 27:1, Isaiah 41:10, and Matthew 10:28. Discuss the common themes and the different perspectives presented in these verses.

Application:

  • How can we practically apply Hebrews 13:6 in our daily lives? Discuss specific situations where this verse can bring comfort and strength.
  • Encourage each other to memorize and meditate on this verse so that it becomes a source of encouragement during challenging times.

Conclusion: The Lord’s help and our trust in Him are vital for overcoming fear and living a faithful Christian life.
