Isaiah 25:8
“He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.”

“He will swallow up death in victory”:This phrase refers to God’s ultimate triumph over death. The Hebrew word for “swallow up” implies complete destruction or elimination. Death is a consequence of sin, and it has plagued humanity since the fall of Adam and Eve. However, God promises to bring about a victory over death.
This verse anticipates the future resurrection of believers and the defeat of death through Jesus Christ. The New Testament echoes this victory in passages such as 1 Corinthians 15:54-55, where the apostle Paul quotes this verse and declares, “Death is swallowed up in victory” through Christ’s resurrection.
“The Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces”:This phrase depicts God’s compassion and comfort for His people. The wiping away of tears symbolizes the removal of sorrow, pain, and suffering. In the presence of God, all the causes of tears and grief will be eliminated.
This promise of comfort is echoed in the book of Revelation, where it is stated that God will wipe away every tear from the eyes of those who belong to Him (Revelation 21:4).
“The rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth”:In this verse, Isaiah speaks of the removal of disgrace and reproach from God’s people. Throughout history, the people of Israel faced various forms of rebuke, oppression, and exile due to their disobedience and the consequences of their sins.
Isaiah prophesies that God will ultimately remove the rebuke, shame, and humiliation His people endured. This is a testament to God’s mercy and His desire to restore His people to a place of honor and dignity.
