Isaiah 26:12

Listen to this article

“LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.”

This verse is part of a beautiful hymn of praise and trust in God, which is found in Isaiah 26. The chapter as a whole speaks of the restoration and deliverance of God’s people and their future state of security and peace.

In verse 12, the prophet Isaiah addresses the Lord directly, acknowledging that it is God who ordains or establishes peace for His people. The word “ordain” here implies that God appoints or sets in order peace for those who trust in Him.

The phrase “for thou also hast wrought all our works in us” emphasizes the sovereignty and power of God. It acknowledges that all the works and accomplishments of God’s people are ultimately the result of His divine intervention and guidance. The Hebrew word translated as “wrought” can also be understood as “accomplished” or “worked.” It implies that it is God who enables and empowers His people to do His will and carry out their works.

Overall, Isaiah 26:12 highlights the trust and dependence of God’s people on Him for peace and the recognition that God is the source of their achievements and the One who brings about their success. It encourages believers to rely on God’s guidance and strength as they seek to live according to His purposes.

This verse can also be seen as a reminder to give glory and credit to God for all that He accomplishes through us. It humbles us and reminds us that apart from God, we can do nothing of lasting value.

In a broader sense, this verse points to the truth that God is the ultimate source of peace and the one who equips and empowers us to carry out His work in the world. It encourages us to trust in God’s ability to establish peace in our lives and to depend on Him for the strength to fulfill the tasks He sets before us.

In summary, Isaiah 26:12 reminds us of our need to trust in God for peace, recognizing that He is the one who establishes it. It also acknowledges that our accomplishments and works are ultimately the result of God’s intervention and power working in and through us. This verse encourages us to rely on God’s guidance, strength, and sovereignty as we seek to live according to His will.
