Isaiah 43:26

Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

Isaiah 43:26 (KJV)

Isaiah 43 is a prophetic chapter in which God speaks to Israel with comfort and assurance. In the preceding verses, God reminds His people of His role as their Creator and Redeemer and promises deliverance. Verse 26 comes immediately after God declares that He blots out their transgressions for His own sake (Isaiah 43:25). This setting frames the verse as a divine invitation to a legal-style dialogue, where God, who has already offered mercy, calls His people to respond.

The verse begins, “Put me in remembrance.” This is not because God forgets, but because He invites His people to actively recall His faithfulness, promises, and past acts of deliverance. Remembering God’s character and deeds strengthens trust and faith. The phrase “let us plead together” suggests a courtroom setting, where God and His people present their cases before Him. He welcomes their concerns, questions, and requests, showing His willingness to engage in honest dialogue. The final clause, “declare thou, that thou mayest be justified,” is a challenge for the people to state their cause. The Hebrew context implies being “proved right” or “shown to be in the right.” Yet their only true justification comes from God, who has already promised to blot out their sins. This is a profound offer: God invites His people to present their case, knowing that He alone can vindicate them.

This verse encourages believers to reflect on God’s past faithfulness, to communicate with Him honestly, and to trust in His righteous judgment. When we bring our doubts and struggles before God, we acknowledge His authority and seek His approval. Remembering His saving work and pleading with Him in prayer deepens our relationship with Him and aligns us with His righteousness. This divine invitation also reassures us that God desires an active and intimate relationship with His people, one that involves honest dialogue and a deep remembrance of His saving work.
