Isaiah 46:13

Listen to this article

“I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.”

Historical Context:The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, and this particular verse is found in a section where God speaks through the prophet Isaiah to the people of Israel. At the time, the Israelites were facing exile and captivity in Babylon due to their disobedience and idolatry.

God’s Righteousness:In this verse, God declares that He brings near His righteousness. Righteousness refers to God’s perfect moral character and His commitment to justice and truth. Despite the dire circumstances the Israelites were facing, God reassures them that His righteousness is not far off. This emphasises the unchanging nature of God’s character and His faithfulness to His people.

God’s Salvation:God also promises that His salvation will not delay or tarry. Salvation here refers not only to physical deliverance from exile but also to spiritual redemption. God assures the Israelites that He will act on their behalf and bring about salvation. This highlights God’s sovereignty and His ability to rescue and restore His people.

Salvation in Zion:God further declares that He will place salvation in Zion, which refers to Jerusalem, the city of God’s dwelling place. By doing so, God emphasises His special relationship with Israel and His commitment to fulfil His covenant promises. The phrase “for Israel my glory” demonstrates God’s desire to bring glory and honour to His chosen people.

Application for Believers:While this verse was initially addressed to the Israelites, it also holds significance for Christians today. God’s righteousness and salvation are not limited to a particular time or people. Through Jesus Christ, God has extended His salvation to all who believe in Him. We can take comfort in the fact that God’s righteousness is near, His salvation is sure, and His desire is to bring glory to those who trust in Him.
