Isaiah 52:7

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!”

Context:Isaiah 52:7 is part of the book of Isaiah, which contains prophecies and messages from God to the nation of Israel. This verse is a declaration of joy and hope, emphasizing the arrival of a messenger who brings good news to Zion (Jerusalem) and proclaims the reign of God.

The beauty of the messenger:The verse begins by highlighting the beauty of the feet of the messenger upon the mountains. In ancient times, mountains served as vantage points from which news could be seen and heard from afar. This metaphor emphasizes the delight and joy that accompanies the arrival of the messenger who brings good tidings. The imagery also suggests the swiftness and urgency with which the good news is being proclaimed.

The good tidings:The messenger brings good news, specifically news of peace and salvation. In the Old Testament context, peace refers to the restoration of God’s people, both spiritually and physically. The message of salvation signifies God’s deliverance and redemption. The arrival of the messenger is a cause for celebration and rejoicing because it brings hope and comfort to the people.

The reign of God:The final part of the verse declares, “Thy God reigneth!” This statement emphasizes the sovereignty and kingship of God. It affirms that God is in control, and His reign brings blessings and restoration to His people. The message of the messenger is not just about good news, but it also reminds Zion (Jerusalem) that God is their ruler and His reign will bring about the fulfillment of His promises.

  • We can find joy and hope in the good news of salvation brought by Jesus Christ. Just as the messenger in Isaiah 52:7 proclaimed peace and salvation, Jesus came as the ultimate messenger of God’s love and redemption.
  • We should eagerly share the good news of the gospel with others. The imagery of the messenger on the mountains reminds us of the urgency and enthusiasm with which we should proclaim the message of salvation to the world.
  • We can take comfort in the fact that God reigns. Despite the challenges and difficulties we may face, knowing that God is in control can bring us peace and assurance. It reminds us to trust in His sovereignty and seek His guidance in every aspect of our lives.

Isaiah 52:7 is a powerful verse that speaks of the joy and hope that comes through the proclamation of God’s good news. It reminds us of the beauty of the message of salvation and the assurance that God reigns over all.
