“Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.”

Isaiah 60:16 (KJV):

“Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.”

Context:The book of Isaiah contains prophecies spoken by the prophet Isaiah during a time of great turmoil in Israel and Judah. In this particular chapter, Isaiah prophesies about the future glory of Jerusalem and the restoration of God’s people.

Symbolic Language:The verse employs symbolic language to convey the message. In ancient times, breastfeeding was a symbol of nourishment, sustenance, and care. Here, it is used metaphorically to represent the blessings and provision that will come to God’s people.

Gentiles and Kings:The verse speaks of the Gentiles and kings, referring to the nations and rulers of the world. In the context of this prophecy, it suggests that the nations and their rulers will provide sustenance and support to God’s people. This speaks to the idea that God’s blessings are not limited to a particular group but are extended to all who align themselves with Him.

God as Savior and Redeemer:The verse emphasizes that it is the Lord who is the Savior and Redeemer of His people. It reminds the readers that their ultimate source of deliverance and redemption is God Himself. This highlights the faithfulness of God to His covenant and His commitment to rescuing and restoring His people.

The Mighty One of Jacob:The verse concludes by declaring God as “the mighty One of Jacob.” This title emphasizes God’s power, strength, and faithfulness towards His chosen people. It reinforces the idea that God’s people can rely on Him for protection, sustenance, and salvation.

Overall, Isaiah 60:16 conveys the message that God will provide for His people and that they will recognise His role as their Savior and Redeemer. The verse reminds believers of God’s faithfulness and His ability to bring blessings and sustenance from unexpected sources. It also highlights God’s strength and power as the One who protects and cares for His people.
