Listen to this article

“For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.”

Context:Isaiah 60 is a prophetic chapter that speaks about the future glory of Zion, the city of God. It describes a time when the Lord will arise and shine upon His people, bringing restoration, prosperity, and divine favour.

Symbolism of materials:In Isaiah 60:17, the prophet uses various materials to illustrate the transformation and restoration that God will bring. Brass, iron, wood, and stones are considered lesser materials, while gold, silver, brass, and iron represent precious and valuable substances. This imagery suggests a divine exchange where God replaces the ordinary with the extraordinary.

Spiritual significance:This verse symbolises God’s desire to bring abundance, prosperity, and honour to His people. The Lord promises to upgrade the quality of their possessions and resources. It signifies a divine intervention in which God will bless and elevate His people, turning what was common or inadequate into something valuable and significant.

Officers of peace and exactors of righteousness:Along with the material blessings, God also promises to establish righteous leadership among His people. The phrase “officers of peace” refers to those who will govern with justice, maintaining peace and order in the community. “Exactors of righteousness” suggests those who enforce fairness and equity, ensuring that everyone receives what is due to them. This indicates that God’s restoration will not only be physical but also extend to governance and justice.

Application:Isaiah 60:17 reminds believers of God’s faithfulness and His ability to bring transformation in every aspect of their lives. It teaches us to trust in God’s promises, knowing that He can replace the ordinary with the extraordinary and turn lack into abundance. Additionally, it encourages us to seek godly leadership and pursue righteousness in all our dealings.

  • Overall:Isaiah 60:17 speaks of God’s intention to bring divine restoration, upgrade, and righteousness to His people. It offers hope and assurance that God can transform our circumstances, replace what is inadequate, and establish justice and peace among us.
