Isaiah 65:23

Posted on 18 May at 14:05

They shall not labour in vaine, nor bring forth for trouble: for they are the seede of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them. Isaiah 65:23 (KJV)

Context: The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament containing messages of judgment, comfort, and hope.

Context: The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, written by the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah 65 is part of a section where the prophet speaks about the future restoration and blessings that God will bring to His people.

Labor and Blessings: In this verse, Isaiah conveys the promise of God’s blessings upon His people. The phrase “They shall not labor in vain” assures that their work will not be futile or without reward. This promise reflects God’s desire to bless His people and ensure that their efforts are fruitful.

God’s Providence: The verse continues by saying, “nor bring forth for trouble.” This statement assures that God’s people will not bear children for calamity or bring forth offspring who will cause distress. It signifies the absence of sorrow or trouble associated with childbirth. God promises to provide for their needs and protect them from unnecessary hardships.

The Seed of the Blessed of the LORD: The verse highlights the special status of the people mentioned, as they are referred to as “the seed of the blessed of the LORD.” This phrase emphasizes that they are the descendants of those who have received God’s blessings and favor. It suggests a generational aspect to God’s blessings, indicating that His blessings extend to future generations.

Application: While this verse originally referred to the restoration of Israel, we can derive some broader principles from it. It reveals God’s heart for His people to experience fruitfulness, protection, and generational blessings. As believers today, we can trust that God desires to bless and provide for us, both in our labour and in our families. It also reminds us of the importance of passing down God’s blessings and teachings to future generations.

Summary: Isaiah 65:23 speaks of God’s promise to bless His people, ensuring that their labour is not in vain and that their offspring will not bring trouble. It emphasises the generational aspect of God’s blessings and provides assurance that God is actively involved in the lives of His people, caring for them and providing for their needs.
