Isaiah 10 describes the judgment that will come upon Assyria, a nation that God used as a tool to discipline His people, but that became arrogant and oppressive. The chapter begins by denouncing Assyria for its unjust actions and its pride in thinking it was responsible for its conquests, instead of recognizing God’s hand in it. God declares that He will punish Assyria for its wickedness, using other nations as instruments of His judgment.
God also makes it clear that Assyria’s success is not a result of its own power or wisdom but is part of His divine plan to bring punishment upon His people. However, Assyria fails to recognize this and intends to destroy Jerusalem, boasting of its victories over other nations. God, in response, promises to protect His people and punish Assyria for its arrogance.
The chapter concludes with a message of hope for the remnant of Israel, assuring them that although they will go through difficult times and suffer the consequences of their disobedience, God’s judgment upon Assyria will ultimately lead to the restoration of His people.
