Jeremiah 36 records an important event during the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah. At this time Jeremiah received a word from the Lord instructing him to write down all the prophecies that God had given concerning Judah and its impending judgment. Baruch, Jeremiah’s scribe, penned these words on a scroll, and the scroll was read before the people, including some high officials and the king himself. In Jeremiah 36:24 we see the reaction of those present after hearing the Lord’s words as written in the scroll. The verse states that the king and all his servants who heard the words were not afraid, nor did they rent their garments.
