Context of Job 29:13:Prior to this verse, Job describes his former state of honor and respect in society, where he was known for his righteous and compassionate actions. He reminisces about the blessings he enjoyed and how people sought his counsel and assistance.

In this particular verse, Job reflects on his previous life of prosperity and the acts of kindness he performed towards those in need.

“The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me”: In this phrase, Job acknowledges that he was blessed by those who were on the verge of perishing or experiencing great distress. It implies that Job had compassion for the needy and extended help to them, and as a result, he received blessings in return. Job recognizes that the act of helping those in dire circumstances brought him favour and favourability in the eyes of others and even from God.

“I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy”: Job’s compassionate acts extended specifically to widows. Widows in ancient times were often vulnerable and in need of assistance and protection. Job took it upon himself to care for them, bringing joy and gladness to their hearts. His acts of kindness uplifted their spirits and relieved their burdens, bringing them comfort and happiness.
