Job 29:14

Listen to this article

“I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.”

Job 29:14 (KJV) states:“I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.”

This verse is part of Job’s final discourse in the book of Job, where he reflects upon his former days of prosperity and honour. Job had been a man of great wealth, influence, and righteousness, but had subsequently experienced immense suffering and loss.

In Job 29, he nostalgically recalls the blessings he once enjoyed and the righteous life he led. Job describes how he clothed himself with righteousness and integrity, which served as a metaphorical garment, adorning him like a robe and a diadem.

Pursuit of righteousness:Job’s statement reveals his commitment to living a righteous life. He understood the importance of personal righteousness and actively sought to align his actions with God’s standards.

Clothed in righteousness:Job’s analogy of clothing himself with righteousness implies that righteousness was an integral part of his identity. It enveloped him, protecting and beautifying his character.

The significance of judgment:Job’s mention of his judgment being like a robe and a diadem indicates his ability to discern between right and wrong.

Recognition and honour:In this verse, Job alludes to the honour and respect he received from others due to his righteous character and wise judgment.
