John 10:17

Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

John 10:17 belongs to Jesus’ Good Shepherd discourse, where He contrasts Himself with a hireling who abandons the sheep in danger. Jesus has just declared that He lays down His life for the sheep (John 10:15), and in the following verse He adds that no man takes His life from Him, but He lays it down of Himself, having power to take it again (John 10:18). This immediate setting shows that His words are not a passive prediction but a deliberate claim about His mission and authority.

Jesus states that the Father loves Him because He lays down His life and takes it again. The word “therefore” connects the Father’s love to the Son’s willing sacrifice.
