John 14:3

Listen to this article

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Context:The book of John is one of the four Gospels in the New Testament, written by the apostle John. In John 14, Jesus is speaking to His disciples during the Last Supper, just before His crucifixion. He is comforting and preparing them for His imminent departure.

Jesus’ Departure:In this verse, Jesus speaks of His departure, indicating that He will be going away. He tells His disciples that He is going to prepare a place for them. This departure refers to Jesus’ impending crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension into heaven.

Preparing a Place:Jesus assures His disciples that He is going to prepare a place for them. This preparation implies the work that Jesus is going to accomplish through His death and resurrection. He is going to make a way for believers to have eternal fellowship with God in heaven.

Second Coming:Jesus goes on to say, “I will come again.” Here, He is referring to His second coming, which is yet to happen in the future. This promise gives hope to His disciples and to all believers that He will return to earth.

Receiving Believers:Jesus says that when He comes again, He will receive His disciples unto Himself. This speaks of the future gathering of believers to be with Jesus in heaven. It emphasizes the personal and intimate relationship that believers will have with Him.

Unity with Christ:Jesus concludes by expressing His desire for His disciples to be with Him where He is. This statement shows the deep love and unity that Jesus desires to share with His followers. It speaks of the eternal dwelling place of believers in the presence of Christ.

Overall, John 14:3 reminds believers of the promise of Jesus’ return and the assurance that He has gone to prepare a place for them in heaven. It encourages believers to look forward to the future unity and intimate fellowship with Christ, where they will be with Him forever.
