Listen to this article

“Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.”

John 17:7 (KJV) says: Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

This verse is part of a prayer known as the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. In this prayer, Jesus is speaking to the Father, expressing His desires and concerns for His disciples and all believers.

Here, Jesus acknowledges that His disciples have come to know and understand that everything He has received from the Father is truly from God. He affirms that the authority, the teachings, and the works He has been given all originate from the Father. Jesus wants His disciples to recognize that His words and actions are in complete alignment with the will of God.

This verse reveals an important aspect of the relationship between Jesus and the Father. It highlights the unity and oneness between them. Jesus, being the Son of God, was sent into the world to fulfil the Father’s will. He was entrusted with the authority to represent God on earth and to carry out His divine plan of salvation.

In a broader context, this verse emphasises the divine origin of Jesus’ teachings and works. It assures believers that everything Jesus taught and demonstrated during His earthly ministry was not of His own accord but directly from the Father. This affirms the authority and reliability of Jesus’ words as they are rooted in the divine source.

For believers today, John 17:7 serves as a reminder of the trustworthiness of Jesus’ teachings. It encourages us to place our faith in Him and His message, knowing that He speaks with the authority of God. It also reminds us of the unity between the Father and the Son, and how Jesus is the perfect revelation of God’s character and will.

Overall, John 17:7 emphasises the divine origin of Jesus’ teachings and works, highlighting His unity with the Father and the trustworthiness of His message.
