John 9:30

“The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.”

Context:John 9 recounts the story of Jesus healing a man who was born blind. After the miraculous healing, the religious leaders interrogated the man and his parents, seeking to discredit Jesus. In this verse, the healed man responds to their questioning.

Marvelous Works of Jesus:The man acknowledges the marvelous thing that has happened to him. He was blind from birth, and yet Jesus had opened his eyes. This miraculous healing demonstrates Jesus’ power and divine authority. It is a testimony to Jesus’ ability to transform lives and bring about restoration.

Lack of Knowledge:The man questions the religious leaders’ lack of knowledge concerning Jesus. Despite witnessing the extraordinary miracle, they seem unaware of Jesus’ origin. The healed man’s statement highlights the irony that someone with such power and authority could remain unrecognized by the religious authorities of the time.

Spiritual Blindness:The man’s words suggest that the religious leaders’ lack of knowledge goes beyond the physical realm. Their spiritual blindness prevents them from recognizing Jesus as the Messiah and understanding the source of His power. They are more concerned with adherence to their own interpretations of the law rather than acknowledging the divine authority displayed before them.

Divine Revelation:In contrast to the religious leaders’ ignorance, the healed man has received a personal encounter with Jesus and has experienced the transformative power of His touch. He testifies to the truth of Jesus’ ability to heal and perform miracles. His faith and understanding have been enlightened through this encounter.
