John Chapter 2

Summery

In John 2, the narrative begins with Jesus, along with His mother and disciples, attending a wedding in Cana. During the celebration, the hosts run out of wine. Mary, aware of Jesus' divine abilities, tells Him about the situation. Initially, Jesus seems hesitant, stating that His time has not yet come. However, at His mother's insistence, He instructs the servants to fill six stone water jars with water. Miraculously, the water turns into the finest wine, astonishing everyone.

After this event, Jesus travels to Jerusalem for the Passover feast. In the temple, He finds people selling animals and exchanging money. In a display of righteous anger, Jesus makes a whip from cords and drives out the merchants, overturning their tables. He rebukes them, declaring that His Father's house is a house of prayer, not a marketplace.

The Jews ask for a sign to prove Jesus' authority, to which He cryptically responds, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Unaware that He is referring to His own body as the temple, they question why it took forty-six years to build the physical temple. Jesus' disciples later understand His statement after His resurrection.
