Joshua 15:32
And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages:
Joshua 15:32 (KJV)
Context
This verse closes the list of twenty-nine cities allotted to Judah in the southern Negeb. The names Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon are real towns, and the total includes their villages. The record shows God’s promise to give Israel the land was fulfilled in a concrete, orderly way.
Meaning
The verse first names four towns, then states the full count. This structure keeps each place connected to the whole district. The careful numbering emphasizes that God’s provision was specific and complete, not vague.
Biblical connections
Some of these cities later appear in Simeon’s inheritance (Joshua 19:1-9), because Judah’s portion was too large and part was reassigned. This explains the overlap and shows how the tribes shared the land. The same towns are also listed in 1 Chronicles 4:32, indicating they remained inhabited. Lebaoth may be the same as Bethlebaoth in Joshua 19:6, though this is not certain. Ain appears as a boundary marker in Numbers 34:11.
Application
God keeps His promises in detail. Just as He gave Judah every city and village, He faithfully provides for His people today. We can trust Him with the small and large parts of our lives, knowing He sees and supplies each need.
Reflection
This list may seem ordinary, but it records real places where God’s people lived. It reminds us that our faith rests on historical events, not ideas alone. We can thank God for His faithful care, which is as certain as the cities He gave to Judah.
