Joshua 24 recounts a significant assembly where Joshua, the leader of the Israelites, gathers all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He reminds them of their history, starting from Abraham’s call and the journey to Egypt. Joshua emphasizes how God led them out of Egypt with miracles and brought them to the promised land, driving out their enemies.
Joshua urges the people to serve the Lord faithfully, warning them against following the gods of other nations. He challenges them to choose whom they will serve, whether the gods of their ancestors or the Lord who has done great things for them. The people respond by affirming their commitment to serving the Lord, recognizing His power and faithfulness.
Joshua then writes down the people’s words and sets up a stone as a witness. He reminds them of the consequences of turning away from the Lord and the blessings of remaining faithful. After this gathering, Joshua dies at the age of 110, and he is buried in his inheritance at Timnath Serah.
