Judges 13:10
And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.
Judges 13:10 (KJV)
Context
This verse belongs to the story of Samson’s birth, told during the time when judges led Israel after Joshua’s death. The angel of the Lord had already visited Manoah’s wife, who was barren, and promised she would bear a son set apart for God. Now the angel appears to her again, and she runs to tell her husband.
Meaning
The woman’s haste shows her faith and her respect for her husband. She does not keep the news to herself. Her words, “Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day,” show that she recognizes the same messenger. Her urgency reveals that she understands the importance of the divine visit. She responds with eagerness, not hesitation, and her action sets the stage for Manoah’s own encounter with the angel.
Biblical connections
Her response mirrors the faith of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1, who also trusted God’s promise despite barrenness. Both women received God’s word with belief. The angel’s involvement shows that God takes the initiative, involving both parents in the plan for Samson’s life. This pattern reminds us that God often works through families, preparing them together for His purposes.
Application
Believers today can learn from this woman’s example. When God speaks through His word or Spirit, respond quickly and share the message with family. Open communication builds unity and helps both partners walk together in God’s purposes. Her obedience also reminds us to receive God’s messages without doubt or hesitation. Sharing spiritual experiences with loved ones can strengthen trust and prepare you both for what God has planned.
Reflection
Consider how you respond to God’s leading. Do you act with urgency and faith, or do you delay? Let her readiness encourage you to be alert to God’s voice and to share His guidance with those closest to you.
