Judges 8:3

God hath deliuered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to doe in comparison of you? then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that. Judges 8:3 (KJV)

The book of Judges is a historical account of the period of time between Joshua and the establishment of the monarchy in Israel. During this period the Israelites went through a cycle of sinning, being oppressed by their enemies, crying out to God for help, and then being delivered by a judge whom God raised up.

In Judges 6 and 7 we read about Gideon, one of the judges raised up by God. Gideon led a small army of three hundred men against a vast Midianite army. By God’s power Gideon and his men were victorious and defeated the Midianites. In Judges 8:3 Gideon speaks to the men of Ephraim, who were angry with him for not inviting them to join the battle against Midian.
