Luke 1:30

“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on

Verse:

Context:Luke 1:30 is part of the narrative of the Annunciation, where the angel Gabriel appears to the young virgin named Mary to announce that she will conceive a child by the Holy Spirit and give birth to the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Fear not:The first thing the angel tells Mary is “Fear not.” This reassurance is a common theme throughout the Bible when angelic beings appear to human beings. It acknowledges the natural fear and awe that humans experience when encountering divine beings but emphasizes that God’s message brings comfort, not terror.

Mary:The angel addresses Mary by name, highlighting her significance and God’s specific choice of her for this incredible role. Mary was a humble young woman from Nazareth, chosen by God for the privilege and responsibility of being the mother of Jesus.

Found favor with God:The angel tells Mary that she has found favor with God. This phrase indicates that Mary has received God’s grace and approval. It emphasizes the special favor and blessing that God has bestowed upon her. Mary’s favor with God is not based on her own merit but is a result of God’s gracious choice.

Application:Luke 1:30 reminds us that God’s favor is not dependent on our status, wealth, or abilities. God chooses to show His favor to whom He wills, and it is often to those who are humble and willing to submit to His plan. Like Mary, we can trust in God’s favor and grace in our lives, even when His plans for us may seem challenging or unexpected.

  • Trust and obedience:Mary’s response to the angel’s announcement demonstrates her faith and willingness to submit to God’s plan. Despite the potential challenges and societal implications of her situation, she says, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38). Mary’s trust and obedience serve as an example for us to follow when we encounter God’s plans and purposes in our own lives.

In conclusion, Luke 1:30 highlights the angel’s assurance to Mary that she has found favor with God. This verse reminds us of God’s gracious choice and the trust and obedience we can have in Him, even when His plans for us may seem extraordinary or challenging.
