But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

Context
Jesus spoke these words to Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, cities that had witnessed many of His miracles and heard His teachings, yet did not repent. He compares their fate to that of Tyre and Sidon, ancient Phoenician coastal cities in modern Lebanon, which were notorious for wickedness and idolatry and were rebuked by Old Testament prophets such as Ezekiel and Joel.
Meaning
The phrase “at the judgment” points to the day of judgment, a future time when God will hold all people accountable. Jesus’ statement reveals that the judgment on Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum will be more severe than that on Tyre and Sidon. Though Tyre and Sidon were wicked, the cities that saw Jesus’ miracles and heard His message had greater knowledge and exposure to God’s truth, and therefore greater responsibility. The severity of judgment is proportional to the light received.
