Luke 17:15

Context:The healing of the ten lepers takes place as Jesus is traveling between Samaria and Galilee. As Jesus enters a village, the ten lepers, who were suffering from leprosy, stand at a distance and cry out to Him, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" (Luke 17:13). Jesus responds by instructing them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they obeyed Jesus’ command, they were cleansed of their leprosy (Luke 17:14).

Gratitude and Praise:Out of the ten lepers, only one returns to Jesus, recognising that he has been healed. The verse states that this person "turned back" and "with a loud voice glorified God." This response highlights his overwhelming gratitude and recognition of God’s power and mercy in his life. Instead of continuing on his way, he acknowledges the source of his healing and expresses his praise openly.

Importance of Thanksgiving:This verse underscores the significance of gratitude and thanksgiving in our relationship with God. The act of turning back and glorifying God reveals the leper’s acknowledgment that his healing was not a mere coincidence or luck, but a miraculous work of God. It serves as a reminder for us to express gratitude and give glory to God for the blessings we receive, recognising that every good gift comes from Him (James 1:17).

Faith and Recognition:This verse also demonstrates the connection between faith and healing. The leper’s faith in Jesus’ words led him to obey the command to show himself to the priests, and as a result, he experienced healing. By returning to give thanks, he not only demonstrates his faith but also acknowledges Jesus as the source of his healing. Through his example, we learn the importance of recognising and acknowledging God’s work in our lives.
