Luke 17:26

Listen to this article

“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.”

Context:The passage is part of a larger discourse by Jesus, where He is teaching His disciples about the coming of the kingdom of God and the signs of its arrival. In this specific verse, Jesus draws a parallel between the days of Noah (Noe) and the days of the Son of Man (referring to Himself).

Reference to the days of Noah:Jesus references the time of Noah, specifically pointing out that the conditions present during that period will be similar to the days leading up to His second coming. In the days of Noah, people were indulging in wickedness and evil. They were unrepentant and ignored Noah’s warnings of the impending flood. The world was filled with violence and corruption (Genesis 6:5-13).

The parallel between Noah’s time and the Son of Man’s coming:Jesus uses this parallel to emphasize that just as people were caught off guard during Noah’s time and did not heed the warning, so it will be when the Son of Man returns. People will be engaged in their daily routines, seemingly unaware of the impending judgment. The world will be marked by wickedness, unbelief, and moral decay.

Significance for believers:This verse serves as a reminder to believers to be watchful and prepared for the second coming of Jesus. It implies that the conditions in society may deteriorate and resemble the days of Noah, but believers are called to remain faithful, obedient, and alert to the signs of the times. The passage emphasizes the importance of discernment and spiritual readiness.

Application:As Christians, we should take this passage as a call to live in accordance with God’s commands, to be vigilant in our faith, and to share the message of salvation with others. We should not be complacent or caught up in worldly pursuits but rather actively anticipate the return of Christ and strive to live holy lives, honoring Him in all that we do.
